This Is For Makers was created in the first lockdown when I was furloughed from my job as a graphic designer. Faced with redundancy, no nursery fees to pay for a while and a lot more time on my hands, it gave me the final push I needed to do something I'd wanted to do for a while - to start my own business. I wanted to combine my design skills and my sewing experience, whilst connecting with the sewing community and create a range of products which I would like to see available.
I love using woven labels for my handmade projects and wanted to create a range with a difference - ones manufactured in the UK. I knew I wanted to have my products made as close to home as possible, to support the UK economy, jobs and supply chains. I sourced a label manufacturer right here in the UK and from working closely with them I was able to launch my first range in October 2020, including a selection of double sided woven labels, giving makers the option to pick the side to suit their mood or their project. All are designed with a stylish and minimal aesthetic, making them perfect for a range of handmade projects including womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, accessories, quilts and bags.
My range of sewing planner PDFs were created for those of you who, like me, love order and organisation. I'm a practical person and love a list and making notes, so also created a stationery range with thoughtful details such as conversion charts.
I design and create everything you see in the shop, including the cotton gift bags which I screen print by hand.
In addition to running This Is For Makers I do some freelance graphic design work and run around after two children. I sew when I can and I've just started knitting my first jumper. I live on the coast, love the seaside and keep a secret stash of chocolate in my sewing cupboard.
